I'm going to create a webcomic entirely in black and white, but let's say after a year; I'm going to self-publish those strips as a collection or in other terms; one comic book ';annual';, and it will be in print and in color, plus extra material like sketches and fill-in stories. Will that idea work, or will the would-be readers of my strip get disappointed because I did not put out a webcomic in color in the first place?Which this marketing idea for a webcomic of mine works?
Hello ,
I personally prefer black and white comics but these comics usually require a lot of detail work to keep the viewer's attention , e.g. cross-hatching , background and shading .
Once you establish a reader/fan base then the idea of having these originally black and white comics in colour is a good idea because these colour comics are then only available in a print medium as opposed to web-based .
The black and white concept would be good until you can determine what sort of readership you have and then you can expand these into colour with additional materials and a limited print run to appeal to collectors and fans alike .
Good luck to you on your comic and happy holidays !
