Can someone explain to me how this website (Yahoo 7 Answers) works?

What is the purpose of earning points and the levels on this site? How do you resolve a question that you post? Help, I think this is a neat site but I don't know how to use it properly! Can someone explain to me how this website (Yahoo 7 Answers) works?
Probably the easiest way for you to learn is to look up to the left above this question and find the ';HELP'; button.

It will take you to this page (see link at source on bottom, please)

Ask a question -5 points

Answer a question +2 points

Best answer +10 points

Select best answer for a question you asked +3 points.

Visit once in a day +1 point.

As you build points you get more questions, answers and votes. When you reach level 5 you get unlimited answers and can really start adding the points on by answering lots of questions.

Once at level 7 you can start working your way up the leader board and aim for top spot in your country...then go for the top spot in the world (I'm working on that one lol...presently number 9 in the world)
This is a very good question - I'm new to Yahoo Answers as well and got a lot of info by reading the answers here. One thing I'm not sure of though is what happens when someone answers a question with, quote ';I dunno'; unquote?? Does this person still get points?
Very good question. I'll look at the answers others provide to you. Basically I've figured out that the more points you have, the more things you can do, more options are available to use. The question becomes resolved, I believe, when you pick a best answer or the time expires. So will it be resoved if no best answer is picked? I'm not sure because I've always picked one.

You use points to ask questions and get points for answering and get more points, 10, if your answer is selected as the best answer.

There's a lot more to know and hopefully someone else will post that.

Peace

P.S. I found this.

Points and LevelsTo encourage participation and reward great answers, Yahoo! Answers has a system of points and levels. The number of points you get depends on the specific action you take. The points table below summarizes the point values for different actions. While you can't use points to buy or redeem anything, they do allow everyone to recognize how active and helpful you've been. (And they give you another excuse to brag to your friends.)

Levels are another way to keep track of how active you (and others) have been. The more points you accumulate, the higher your level. Yahoo! Answers recognizes your level achievements with our special brand of thank you's!

And finally, as you attain higher levels, you'll also be able to contribute more to Yahoo! Answers - you can ask, answer, vote and rate more frequently.

This paste job didn't paste the table. Hopefully the link works for you.
Its a website that you can help people with different questions. If you make questions, you will be deducted 5 points and if you answer a question, you will recieve 2 points
If you want to answer questions, then click on answers, and you will receive 2 pts. Likewise, if you choose to ask a question, you will lose 2 pts. I would guess the reason for earning points is to just be able to say';WOW! Look how many points I have'; lol If you've asked a question, you have three days to get enough answers and then you pick whichever answer you like the best, where it says choose as best answer by the name/answer. Just be prepared, alot of people just like to be a smart*** and get their two points by being ridiculous and not serious about the answer. On the other hand, some of the questions are outright stupid.
You get the chance to ask questions and answer them. The more u answer them the more points you get and the more questions you can ask
Welcome to the wild and often wacky world of Yahoo Answers!

The points are mostly meaningless -- they are to suck in users who aren't really interested in asking and answering questions. Their only value is that, at the low levels, you're limited in how much you can do each day. Ignore them.

If you want to read about them, click your points -- that takes you to the page that explains them.

As another user said, click Help at the top right of the screen to get to the help system. There's also a sort of faq available when you click What's Going On... (it isn't labeled faq, but Help or something; it's a list of questions about using the site, with answers).

To use the site properly, make sure you're familiar with the Guidelines (link, bottom of most pages).

Click ';My Q%26amp;A'; near the top right -- that takes you to your page, with your stats, and links to all your questions and answers.

Go there, and click the question you want to resolve (when you choose a Best, you get back 3 of the 5 points it cost to ask).

It IS a neat site -- though there's also a lot of junk on it.

When you see posts that violate the Guidelines, click Report Abuse for that post. Help Yahoo staff police this site so it has less sludge, and more fun and interesting questions and helpful answers.

Holding your mouse over someone's avatar (image above their screen name) gives you a popup with basic stats on that person; clicking it takes you to their page with their stats and questions and answers.

BTW, all questions and answers are a permanent part of the database -- you can Search for questions, and read the answers; you can browse around in the Discover section.
