I heard if you ice you cake w/ spatula and there are still lines i can wet the spatula with hot water to smooth th icing? wil this work? Also, which tips work best plastic or metal? i have both....Does this work? icing and tip change?
The best way to ice a cake is to use ready made sugarpaste, do not use a cheap make tho as it cracks, a good make is regalice, and it comes in lots of different sizes and colours, cover your cake in a VERY thin layer of buttercream NEVER use jam and the icing will stick to that, roll out the icing with a non stick rolling pin and NEVER use flour to cover your workspace, use icing sugar, roll it out and place the rolling pin over ( not touching the icing just hovering over ) the icing/ sugarpaste, flip the half furthest away over the rolling pin then place strait onto the cake, make sure your icing is only rolled out no thinner then 5mm thick, or it will fall apart and your done, the best way to smooth it out alothugh it should already be pretty smooth that way is to use cake smoother, also cupping it with the warmth of your hands around the sides can smooth it out pretty well too!
hope this helpsDoes this work? icing and tip change?
The best thing you can do is try as many ways with as many tools possible. Make a cake for fun and just explore your options. You could also go to a bakery and ask them how they do it, I'm sure the people there would love to tell you how.
Yes that does work, but make sure not to really soak the spatula or anything. You want it to get hot, and have a bit of water on it, but not like soaking. Also, I like metal, but it's personal preference.
not in order to smooth the icing very carefully turn the cake upside down and smear it on the table. your paper plastic and metal make the cake catch fire and turn to sugar ash
Yes, the spatula technique works (it slightly melts the oils in the frosting, making it easier to smooth out). And I prefer the metal tips.
