How do I work this algebraic problem 2^-4 + 4^-1?

I know that the answer to this problem is 5/16 but could someone please explain to me how to get this answer? How do I work this algebraic problem 2^-4 + 4^-1?
2^(-4) means 1 / (2^4)

And

4^(-1) means 1 / (4^1)

Whenever there is negative exponents, the number goes to denominator.

If I clear this, 1 / (2^4) = 1 / 16,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 1 / (4^1) = 1 / 4

If you add them, (1 / 16) + (1 / 4) = 5 / 16

I hope I helped!!!!!How do I work this algebraic problem 2^-4 + 4^-1?
2^-4 is the same as saying 1 / (2)^4 = 1/(2*2*2*2) = 1 / 16

4^-1 is the same as saying 1 / (4)^1 = 1/4 = 4/16

1/16 + 4/16 = 5/16

That's how come 2^-4 + 4^-1 = 5/16

.... because 2^-4 + 4^1 = 1/16 + 4/16 = 5/16

Hope this helps!!!
2^-4= 1/ 2^4 = 1/ 16

4^-1 = 1 /4

1/16 + 1/4 = 1/16 + 4/ 16 = 5/16
Just remember that a number to a negative power is the same as 1 divided by the same number to a positive power.

x^-y is the same as 1/x^y or

x^y is the same as 1/x^-y
1st remember to do order of operation

Exponent

2 to the -4 power is 0.0625

4 to the -1 power is 0.25

Add 0.0625 to 0.25 =0.3125

0.3125 in fraction form is 5/16
when you take something to a negative power, it becomes part of a fraction and you sort of flip it. to start, 2*2*2*2 = 16. If we make it the negative power, it is 1/16. 4 to the -1 is 1/4. added together they are 5/16.
first u have to 2 to the power of negative 4 plus 4 to the power of negative 1

the you should do

2^-4=2 to the power of negative 4=.0625=6.25/100

4^-1=4 to the power of negative 1=.25=1/4

multiply by 100 to get the the number out of 100

make common denominators

6.25/100

1/4=25/100

common denominators

then add

2^-4 + 4^-1=6.25/100+25/100=31.25/100=.3125

make into fraction and simplest

.3125=5/16

hope this helps
