History has proven that socialism doesn't work, why do they think this time it would?Why are Obama's followers so convinced that socialism would work this time?

Younger people don't know about socialism. I've all ready had a couple of people ask ';What's so wrong with Socialism?'; ....its frightening..I mean..what are they teaching kids these days?





I agree the more needs to be done to help the destitute...but the cure is a hand up....not a hand out.





';Trickle down economics doesn't work'; ..America has been running on ...as you like to call it ';trickle down economics'; and we are the most powerful country in the world....How exactly is it not working again?





I would offer that people who live in America......visit mexico...visit Canada......You don't realize just how good we have it here..until you see what other countries have done.Why are Obama's followers so convinced that socialism would work this time?
Actually, history has not proven that socialism doesn't work. Don't confuse socialism with the totalitarian brand of communism practiced in China and the Soviet Union. Furthermore, democratic socialism is working quite well in several Scandinavian countries.





Of course, Obama is not a socialist. Please take the time to study the differences between socialism and social liberalism before you make such a careless assumption.
Because they believe him unconditionally.





N: Socialism produces mediocre results. Infrastructure is not socialism. Its the goverments function to provide infrastructure.





We're talking about wealth. Socialism doesn't produce wealth. Taking money from one pocket and putting it in the other doesn't increase a nation's wealth. The idea of capitalism is to increase overall wealth so that everyone is better off.





Lets face it, most middle class people don't know what hard times are. They have their new cars, $400 cell phones, big screen TVs and buy $14 martinis and whine about how hard life is. They have no idea what hard times are.
Socialism has worked for the following sectors:


- health care (outside the US)


- schools (outside the US)


- fire departments


- police


- public transportations (to some extent)


- power generation and distribution


- tap water supply


- defense (so far I know the US didn麓t use mercenaries in most conflicts)





It has failed in all other single sectors.





NB: The USSR also realized that socialism wasn麓t working as well as expected and had a capitalist system for the military industrial sector.
Why don't you tell us what Socialism really is? I would like to hear it from you, since you are the professional.





I know most of you were not born yet, but in the 1932 presidential election Republicans called FDR socialist for his ';new deal'; proposal. They thought we were going downhill. Well, guess what. He saved the day, thanks to him we have Social Security, Medicare and much more. So next time you feel you have to blurt out crying socialism, remember the ';socialist'; that made it possible for your grandparents to retire.





It's a cheap trick put on by republicans and it isn't the first time. Hopefully it won't be the first time to succeed either. There is no way this country will be a Socialist State under an Obama Administration. Grow up and clean out your ears, do some real research.
Socialism has never worked, anywhere. Europe is slowly becoming more capitalist and we are heading towards socialism?!?! It doesn't make any sense. We should stick with what has worked for us. We are still the wealthiest nation in the world and we got there through capitalism not socialism.
Possibly because capitalism has brought us all to where we are now. Totally screwed by the banks, the oil barrons, the fascist style war mongers and war profiteers, thats why!!!!


And you are just parroting what you havent even researched. Im a New Zealander, were a socialist democracy, come out here and tell me our system never worked.
Cannot be any worse than corporate socialism, which is what Paulson and Bush are supporting wholeheartedly. Each election cycle the republicans bring up socialism, I really think you all need to let it go.
Because its YOUR money, not theirs.

It really is a nice idea. Idealists and young people can't see the downside. But it just does not work.
