f(x) = 6 is the rule for any value of x, since there is no variable in the function part. This is called a constant function.





f(x) = 6 for all x, so f(12) = 6

To put it in words: the function always equals six. If you graphed it, it would be a horizontal line a y=6, so that no matter what value you punch in for x, it is always the same.
Since there's no x on the right hand side of the equation f(x)=6, substituting x=12 doesn't do anything, therefore f(12) still equals 6.
Because f(x) = 6. So f(12) = f(6+6) = f(3*4) = f(2*6) = f(1+11) etc. This worries me.
All you do is plug in 12 for 'x'. So if f(x) = 6 then f(12) also equals 6.
