The generation of electricity by certain materials when a force is applied, or conversely the deformation of the material when a potential is applied constitutes the Piezo electric effect. The best material is a quartz crystal. For example lighters etc are devices using quartz crystals which use this principle. Here when sudden pressure is applied on the quartz crystal there is an electric discharge taking place between the electrodes. Usually electrodes are deposited or attached to the material to facilitate electrical coupling whereby we can harness the electrical discharge to serve our purpose in this case of lighting a flame or a gas stove. When the converse takes place by applying electrical potential across the electrodes the crystal gets temporarily deformed and this makes the quartz Crystal vibrate. Calibrating this vibration one can design crystals that can deliver a specific frequency which can be used as a clock generator or a timing generator. All PCs have these tiny quartz crystals embedded in the system which powers the system clock.Piezoelectric Effect and Devices, How does this work in dummies term....?
Similar to the chemicle effect in an electric eal, (fish)
But the effect is caused by strikeing two pieces of special stones together for a high voltage spark.
This device is widely used in camping refrigeration to start the fire. Also in camping furnaces found in trailers and motorhomes.Piezoelectric Effect and Devices, How does this work in dummies term....?
when electric current is passed thru the Quartz, it starts vibrating at an exact number of vibration per second,
it generates piezoelectric current i suppose
